About Love waves

Matt Stephen is the founder and owner of Love Waves Gower, an independently run, core surf shop based in the Swansea area of South Wales. 

A surf industry veteran, Matt has been in the game for over 30 years. 

 Cutting his teeth as a sales rep with Aussie brand Billabong in the 90’s, Matt has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to running surf brands - from distribution to sales and marketing. 

He has leveled up his game over the years managing a range of brands in apparel, and accessories like sunglasses as well as the hardware we all love like surfboards, wetsuits and skateboards. 

 

His talents are not purely land-based either.

A standout surfer growing up, Matt was the first-ever surfer to win the Welsh Nationals Open and Junior categories in the same year - quite an achievement!

He went on to win the Welsh Open Championship a total of 4 times, and represent his country at the World Surf Games, as well as the European Championships a number of times. 

Matt’s competitive mindset has undoubtedly helped him in his personal and business life - the willingness to never give up is a trait many business owners possess.
